If you produce petrochemicals using catalysts, the combination of activity, selectivity and catalyst lifetime are important parameters. Colloidal silica provides the catalyst particles with a pore system that enables fast mass transport. This enhances the utilization of the catalytically active substances through higher activity and selectivity and by stabilizing the catalyst against loss of activity at high temperatures. The strong binding ability of colloidal silica contributes to the mechanical strength of the catalyst structure and in particular to the attrition strength of the catalyst. This results in increased mechanical stability and extended catalyst lifetime.
