One of the processes employed for the removal of fine particulates from liquids is flocculation. This process causes precipitates, called flocs, to float to the top (“creaming”) or settle to the bottom (“sedimentation”) of a liquid and can then be easily removed or filtered out.
In some water treatment applications, colloidal silica facilitates the flocculation of undesirable materials from process streams. Colloidal silica can also improve the dewatering and retention efficiency of the removed precipitates.
